ZeniMax Media Acquires id Software

ZeniMax Media Acquires id Software

June 24, 2009 (Rockville, MD) – ZeniMax Media Inc., parent company of noted game publisher Bethesda Softworks, today announced it has completed the acquisition of legendary game studio, id Software, creators of world-renowned games such as DOOM, QUAKE, Wolfenstein, and its upcoming title, RAGE. The acquisition by ZeniMax Media joins together two of the finest, most respected videogame developers in the world, combining the first person shooter (FPS) expertise of id Software with acclaimed role playing game (RPG) developer Bethesda Game Studios – creators of the 2008 Game of the Year, Fallout 3, and the 2006 Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Bethesda Softworks will publish the titles of id Software other than upcoming releases previously committed to other publishers.

I really hope Bethesda doesn’t fuck this up. Both are good at what they do, and hopefully they keep their nose out of what id does. But sad to say, I doubt this will last long.

Count down to a Quake based rpg in 3.. 2.. 1…

The Fallen Dream that was the Moon Landings.

It is 40 years since the words, ‘The Eagle has landed,’ sent a thrill around the world. The Apollo moon missions were to herald a new dawn of space exploration, of lunar bases, manned missions to Mars, and more. But in the decades since – and after the Shuttle disasters – America’s appetite for interplanetary flight dwindled. The moon landings marked not the beginning, but the end, of our space dreams.

Its a shame that we haven’t really progressed in space travel in over 40 years. We are still using the same vessels that were designed over 30 years ago! Space exploration is important, and if we wait until we have more funding to support something like NASA, they will never get more funding.

Fresh from Friendfeed is screwed.

So I had a few twitter posts that I wanted to delete from the blog. I felt they cluttered everything up.

Well it seems doing so, broke the remaining posts. Looks like I lost about 2 months full of posts. Its better this way, now I can use this blog to post to friendfeed, instead of friendfeed posting to this blog.

So if there is anything you want to see again that was listed in the past 2 months, please go to http://friendfeed.com/hartleyshc.
